Field Trip – Bentley Academy Charter School (3-24-17)

On March 24th, 36 forth graders from the Bentley Academy Charter School; came to Northeastern University for a field trip on energy and engineering. The students experimented with solar panels and how different colors and other factors influence the voltage output in the Solar Energy activity. Then students were able to ask a panel of Northeastern volunteers questions about their college experiences in the College 101 activity. After this students were guided by volunteers on a tour around the Northeastern campus.

In the afternoon the students did the Earthquake Lab activity. Post Doctorate Alpay Demiryurek introduced the science of earthquakes and how infrastructure is built to withstand the effects of earthquakes to the students. Then, using the Civil Engineering Earthquake Laboratory, students are able to create and test their own structures and even feel what an earthquake is like.
