Field Trip – John D. O’Bryant (2-16-18)

On February 16th, 60 ninth graders from John D. O’Bryant School of Mathematics and Science came to Northeastern University for a field trip engineering. The students constructed towers solely out of paper without any adhesive, clamps, or other binding agents. This truly puts the young mind to the test, determining the best method of simultaneously achieving stability and height. The students then went to the earthquake lab where they learned about earthquake simulations and how civil engineers design structures to withstand such natural disasters. The students then built structures out of K’NEX in small groups and tested their designs to failure.

In the afternoon the students were brought on a tour of campus by our undergraduate volunteers. After the tour the students were able to ask a panel of our volunteers questions about college and high school life in College 101.
