nuSTEM Newsletter 12 (7/10 – 7/17) – Funletter (ECE)

Welcome to Week 12!

This week’s newsletter is a little different than usual. Originally intended to be part of our summer newsletter; this newsletter moves away from a hands-on activity-style newsletter and instead is all about fun and games! Written by our work study Hadeel, this newsletter focuses on word puzzles related to Electrical and Computer Engineering (answer key at bottom of newsletter). In the future, we will have additional funletters interspersed within our regular newsletters. For a list of prior blog posts, see the blog index.

Resource Highlight

  • Top 10 Coding Games
TechGumbo’s youtube video on video games that you can play to learn how to code. Additional suggestions in the comments.
  • Wired – The Game
Wired is a free, puzzle-platform video game in which you must wire up electrical circuits to progress through the game. Can be played either as a stand-alone app, or as a browser game. Trailer for the game can be seen here.

Web Resources for K-12 Students and Parents

In addition to the resource highlight above, which is tied directly to the Newsletter topic, we will also highlight two new web resources each week.

  1. Sciencemakers
As part of the HistoryMakers, Sciencemakers is a collection of video interviews of African American scientists and engineers, as well as a variety of other careers.
  2. PBS Summer Learning Collection
PBS Learning Media contains a vast collection of STEM resources for K-12 students. This page in particular focuses on summer activities as well as providing a link to summer reading materials and summer camps.
