The Young Scholars Program is officially more than halfway through! Last week, the scholars continued working in their labs and went on their first field trip!
The scholars visited Amgen, a renowned biotech company in Cambridge, MA, on Thursday for their first field trip. Marybeth Rockett, a YSP alumna, graciously hosted the group at Amgen. The students were divided into two groups and guided by staff members through various sections of the research facility. They had the chance to observe different laboratory equipment and engage with researchers, all while gaining insights into the research opportunities and objectives at Amgen. Following the tour, Ms. Rockett and the company generously hosted lunch for the scholars.
The Center for STEM maintains regular contact with YSP alumni, like Ms. Rockett, and is deeply grateful for their continued support and involvement. During presentations, field trips, and even typical YSP days, the Center for STEM witnesses a full circle of connections between former and current YSP participants. Alumni like Ms. Rockett, who began her YSP journey eight years ago, and this year’s coordinators, who are alumni from one and two years ago, are instrumental in keeping the program thriving. Their contributions are invaluable in helping current YSP students broaden their understanding of STEM and research. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to all YSP alumni for creating and sustaining opportunities for future scholars, and we cannot wait to see the opportunities the future holds!
