YSP Alumni Highlights

Matthew eckelman-mEckelman – Matthew was part of the 1995 Young Scholars Program. He now has a Ph.D. in Environmental Engineering and  M.S., M.Phil. in Environmental Engineering from Yale University, as well as a B.A. in Physics and Mathematics from Amherst College.  He is now an associate professor at Northeastern University. Matthew has now come full circle as he is now a lead investigator for the YSP program summer 2016.

 

 

 

 

Matross_Brian_NEWPGBrian Matross – Brian participated in the 1992 Young Scholars Program as a rising senior at Peabody Veterans Memorial High School. He researched in Professor Hashemi’s lab, researching Vibration and Mechanical Properties of Components. He now has a BS in engineering from Cornell University and a Doctorate of Law from Case Western Reserve University School of Law. Brian works as a patent attorney with Locke Lord LLP  in New York. He looks back his time at YSP saying, “I learned about engineering, got hands-on experience, met interesting people, and got to go on some cool field trips!” even though he eventually changed careers.

 

 

Natasha FedanNatasha Fedan – Natasha participated in the 2004  Young Scholars Program as a rising junior at Belmont High School. She researched in Wendy Smith’s lab. Fedan has said that YSP “gave me the confidence to apply for lab jobs and the drive to pursue more than just a bachelor’s degree. Wendy Smith’s lab was also the main reason I chose to pursue biology in my educational career.”  She now has a B.S. and M.S. in Biology both from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. Natasha works as an Engineer  for URS, an AECOM Company.

 

 

130506OGJ_ShakelfordAubry Shackelford – Aubry was part of the 1992 Young Scholars Program. “YSP confirmed the engineering path for me, helped me choose the discipline (chemical), and allowed me to get to know Northeastern as a great community where I could pursue my degree.” He now has a B.S. in Chemical Engineering from Northeastern University. Aubry is now the CEO of Pegasus Therapeutics, Inglenook Engineering, Inc.
