There are a plethora of Summer STEM Opportunities in Boston and the surrounding area.
For K-12 students and parents, we recommend browsing BostonTechMom, a local site for discovering STEM activities and programs. In addition, each year in around April, the Boston Public Schools release a “Summer Stuff” database with a list of free summer programs: BPS’ Summer Stuff. Besides our Young Scholars’ Program, Northeastern University also offers 2-week Pre-College Programs.
For College students, we recommend students partake in REU – Research Experience for Undergraduates. You can use the NSF site to search for specific REUs: NSF REU Search. In addition, you can use NSF’s ETAP website to search for and apply for other NSF-funded programs: NSF ETAP. Please note that the application period for most summer college programs is December-March, so plan accordingly.
For teachers, we recommend applying for an RET – Research Experience for Teachers. NSF currently has programs in Engineering/Computer Science [RET] and in Biological Sciences [BioRET]. To find programs to apply for, you can peruse the NSF search portal or apply directly via NSF ETAP.
