This summer the Center for STEM Education ran its 30th year of the Young Scholars’ Program. First started in 1989 (with a hiatus between 1996 and 2003), the Young Scholars’ Program is a six week summer research program for rising high school seniors in the Boston area. This summer, 32 students from 26 high schools joined us, working with 16 faculty across the NEU colleges, representing COE, COS, & Khoury. In each lab, as highlighted below, a pair of students worked on research with the help of their faculty and graduate student mentors, bringing all their research together at the end of the program in a poster and presentations session (which can all be seen on the YSP 2026 webpage. This summer’s program was coordinated by YSP program alumni: Ahmed Othman (’24), Kenneth Santizo Carbajal (’24) and Frances Corcell (’25). Over the six weeks, the coordinators and the Center staff organized a variety of career exploration seminars, team-building activities, hands-on STEM explorations, and field trips.
