Introduction to Engineering Workshop
The activities under this offering are for introducing the engineering design process visually and hands-on. These tend to be shorter activities (do-able in 10-45 minutes) and we often 1 or more of these at each of our field trips.
List of Activities + Resources:
Introduction to Engineering [PPT Link]: this is our introduction PowerPoint we use whenever we introduce the Engineering Design Process. It all the activities below in it.
What is This Technology? [Handouts Link]: what kinds of things do (mechanical) engineers build and design to solve problems? This is a visual challenge activity – looking at pictures to identify things. We strongly recommend you add to this by bringing in your own technologies / items to have students guess what they are.
Paper Towers [PPT Link]: try your hand at engineering and design a tower. This activity has four variations: tallest tower, strongest towers, hurricane-proof towers, and earthquake-proof towers.
STEM/College 101 [Link]: meet Northeastern engineering (and other major) students and ask them anything: about college, STEM, high school, etc.
