EFA Field Trip – King K-8 School (1-17-17)

Excellence for All” (EFA) is an initiative out of Superintendent Tommy Chang’s 100 Day plan, intended to expand access to rigorous curriculum and enrichment experiences for students in Boston Public Schools. During the 2016-2017 school year the initiative is focused on 4th grade classrooms. Many of these classes were invited to Northeastern for K-12 Field Trip.

On January 17 we had our first EFA school visit this semester: the King K-8 School from Dorchester. The 50 visiting fourth grade students learned about engineering by building Catapults from popsicle sticks and tape. The students also learned about the different engineering disciplines and had a chance to ask a panel of Northeastern volunteers about their college experience in STEM / College 101. Students then completed a Reverse Egg Drop challenge of building a device to catch eggs without them cracking.
