REU-POWER 2021 Update

Today marks the beginning of week 8, with 2 weeks of the REU-POWER program remaining! Students have gotten the opportunity to work closely with their assigned faculty member on a power related research project. In addition to their lab work, students are participating in a variety of learning experiences with emphasis on power and energy. This encompasses attending interactive seminars with Northeastern faculty, alumni and experts in their respective field from companies such as Avolta Energy, NASA and Ampaire. Additionally, participants have engaged in career development workshops covering topics like LinkedIN, research ethics, diversifying power along with mentorship as some REU students were panelist for a discussion with the Youth Scholar Program (YSP) centered on their matriculation as STEM majors and general college 101.To remain forward thinkers each student presented a ‘current event’ on energy related topics. Students presented on subjects such as the International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor (ITER) the world’s largest fusion experiment, community solar panels, the impacts of crypto mining on the environment, implementing passive house designs to save energy, and air purifying cars and many others

As the program concludes students will present their research and  investigative work they have completed during the duration of the program at their final presentation. The final presentation and poster sessions for REU – POWER participants will be held via Zoom on Wednesday, July 28th from 9:30 am – 11:45 am.
