On September 22nd, 80 eighth graders from Linden STEAM Academy came to Northeastern University for an engineering field trip. In the morning the students learned the basics of engineering as Northeastern Student Volunteers Carlin and Michael presented “Intro to Engineering.” The students then split into two main groups. One group completed the Catapults activity. The students learned the mechanics of catapults before designing and building their own. These students test fired their catapults by launching Skittles at a target. The other group participated in the College 101 information panel where they asked Northeastern volunteers about their college experience. After both groups finished they swapped activities.

In the afternoon students designed and built their own Paper Rockets in small groups. These rockets were then tested outside and launched via compressed air. Volunteers then guided students on a tour around the Northeastern campus.
